May 1st is commemorated as Workers' Day in most countries of the world. It is a day of vindication of the labor movement and a tribute to the Chicago Martyrs, a group of anarchist trade unionists who were executed in the United States after participating in strikes for the achievement of eight-hour workdays in 1886.
